The Town of Dennis is working with MassDOT and the Town of Harwich on the section of Route 28 from the intersection of Upper County Road and Division Street in Dennisport to the Herring River in Harwich.
The PS&E Design was submitted on August 1, 2025 and advertised for construction on September 6, 2025. Construction is expected to follow in the early 2026 timeframe.
The project will look similar to the Dennisport section (completed in 2021) and include upgrades to the signals and crosswalks at the intersection, as well as bicycle lanes and sidewalks on both sides of the road all the way to the river. Amenities such as landscaping, decorative lighting, brick sidewalks, benches and bicycle racks will be included as part of the work.

Design Public Hearing was held on January 24, 2023 to review the 25% plans. Input from the meeting was received from the public and incorporated into the 75% design which was recently submitted to MassDOT.
